November Issue Item: The Artwork of Joey Veltkamp
One thing our November story on Joey Veltkamp's blog and a handul of talented Seattle artists ("The Enquiring Mind," November 2009) does not do is illustrate the other half of Joey Veltkamp's important involvement in the art world: his own art, which includes painting, drawing, illustrating and embroidery -- and probably others we don't yet know about.
So, here is a very small sample of his paintings that represent his "domestic burliness" to a T:

How the West Was Won (detail), paint and embroidery

Pink Tiger
"Why this represents the domestic burliness: the tiger image is very macho (Ernest Hemingway, etc.), but the pink treatment alters its meaning and not just by choice of color. It doesn't necessarily 'neuter' it. To me, the pink makes it tougher/rougher." -- J.V.
