6 Illuminating Things from Labor Day Weekend

1. “Fuck” is the new “thank you.” (Thank Pavement for the tip.) I suppose that means the reverse is also true.
2. Gargantuan platform heels seem to be back in vogue. Thank you, fashion industry. I was beginning to notice an alarming dearth of pain in my feet.
3. The inside of St. Mark’s Cathedral is wonderful – it’s minimalist, unfinished and even a little rugged in some places, but wow. What a lovely vessel to experience music within. I plan on attending a choral concert there very soon.
4. Tahini sounds like an interesting thing to spread on French toast, I know, but don’t. Stick to syrup and/or peanut butter. Some things are traditions for a reason.
5. I never thought I’d write something like this: but the chicken nuggets at Unicorn are amazing. They taste like they’ve been rubbed down with Cool Ranch Doritos and then fried. Yum. (I hear the corn dogs are great, too – next time.)
6. Pastor Terry Jones of Florida (who is proudly defending Koran-burning at his church in Florida) confirms what I had only suspected: the mustache is never going to go away. And until we educate more people about its ugly side affects – mustaches will abound everywhere with hairy, coffee-stained vengeance.
