5 Illuminating Things from the Weekend | October 25, 2010

1. Zombies are people too. At least, they seem so when imagined by fiction writer Jess Walter.
2. Nordstrom Rack is more hunting ground than store. And only the fittest survive.
3. Katherine Heigl can act. Unfortunately, she consistently stars in movies with forgettable names, in which her character arc relies on unkempt, unmotivated – and very tan – men showing her how to have a “good time.” So I don’t care.
4. People say strange things under the pressure of the game Catchphrase (e.g., “Monkeys shake these from trees!” or “This cereal is about sailing!”)
5. According to some, I’m considered “bougie.” The fact that I had to look that up probably confirms it. Here are my two favorite definitions from the Urban Dictionary:
a. Aspiring to be a higher class than one is. Derived from bourgeois - meaning middle/upper class, traditionally despised by communists.
b. Adjective used to describe the extravagant and snobbish characteristics of those in the upper class or those aspiring to be part of the upper class gliteratti who consume $750 dinners and scoff at the idea of spending less than $50 on a meal.
