Tacoma's Art at Work Month! Q&A With Sharon Carr

On November 6th and 7th from 10am-4pm, studios and artist are opening their spaces up to the public for Tacoma's Art at Work, featuring forty-four locations throughout Tacoma.

City Arts spoke with some of the artists participating in this exhibition to give you a taste of what's in store. Tours start tomorrow.

Name: Sharon Carr.

Primary artistic medium/media: I am primarily working with acrylic on canvas. I prefer big canvases.

Studio street address: My studio is in my home, however during the tour, I will be in Joe Palciche's studio downtown. Joe makes my giclees for me.

Hours spent per week working in studio: I spend as much time as possible in the studio. Probably, I average about 3 hours a day.

What you’re working on now: I am working on trying to make my work less literal. I want viewers to be able to discern a subject matter, but I am working on making my work more about color and shape.

Most dangerous tool in your studio: The most dangerous tool in my studio is me, the old dog in my studio, that is trying to learn new tricks.

Weirdest material(s) you’re currently working with: The weirdest tool in my studio is actually in my brain. It is William Turner who has gotten inside of my poor old brain and is really stretching it. (who is also opening his studio). I have been so lucky to paint with him for the last couple of months.

Favorite part about your studio space: The best part of my studio space is that it is right in my home and I can paint anytime the spirit moves me. I don’t have to travel to get there.

Least favorite part about your studio space: There is nothing that I don’t like about my studio.

Your favorite completed work : Red Pathway.
