Bad News for Seattle Cinemas

In the past few weeks, several Seattle cinemas have announced they are closing (or possibly closing), including:

  • the Uptown
  • the Neptune
  • the Columbia City Cinema

Seattle Theatre Group announced yesterday that it was taking over the Neptune with plans to remodel the space (including removing half of the main floor seating) to have live performances as well as film screenings and other arts events. Most of those seats on the first level weren't that great anyways, so this seems like a plus, except for at SIFF when it'll only mean a harder time getting tickets to shows playing there.

Columbia City on the other hand is attempting to sell 50,000 $1 shares by January 1. As for the Uptown, its future is unclear, however, I do hope whoever takes the space over maintains the theatre's marquee.

Naturally, I blame the internet.
