Welcome to Your Weekend: Rock Musicals and Mad Rad

The Revolutionary War is reexamined in On The Boards' show Gloria's Cause, playing tonight through Sunday.
Revolutionary rock
The Revolutionary War meets dance meets rock music in On The Boards' current production, Gloria's Cause, performing tonight (Friday) through Sunday. The dance-driven rock musical by Dayna Hanson digs deep into American past, through layers of triumphs, failures and inequities with the show's cast doubling as a live band.
Music
If your interest was piqued by "Anatomy of a Booooooo!" about Mad Rad's notorious emcee Buffalo Madonna in this month's issue of City Arts, head to Neumos tonight (Friday) for the Mad Rad CD Release Party for their album "The Youth Die Young". With guests like Champagne Champagne, Viper Creek Club and White Fang, it's going to be one hell of a party.
Theatre
Past and present are blended in Intiman's production of The Scarlet Letter, closing this weekend. Nathaniel Hawthorne's classic is adapted by Naomi Iizuka and directed by Lear deBassonet for the Intiman stage in a production that brings the themes of shame, pride, sexuality and hypocrisy to the modern front.
Visual Art
With First Thursday comes fresh exhibits and fresh perspectives: the gallery at E|M Fine Art in South Lake Union opened the latest Jeff Hengst exhibit, Backs: Intuitive Realism last night (Thursday). With these latest works, Hengst explores realism while using his own perspective in distortion of color and form to enhance the true nature of his subject.
Film
Have you ever heard that rumor that Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon syncs up perfectly with The Wizard of Oz? SIFF Cinema will be testing this theory tonight (Friday) and Saturday with two showings of The Dark Side of Oz that sheds light on the myriad connections between the two classics that spans to lyrics, song titles and even cover art for an Oz experience unlike any other.
