Touch Art Tomorrow at the Bellevue College Gallery

Hayden and Wisdom will demonstrate ways to interact during their exhibit tomorrow

Tomorrow, artists Alex Hayden and Juliana Wisdom reveal their newest exhibit Stuck at the Kids’ Table at the Bellevue College Gallery Space. According to their artist statement, the duo met on a playground at the University of Washington and exchanged a few physical blows (Hayden got a kick in the face, Wisdom received a toothy bite) as a result of their competing artistic nature. Now, both the UW alums have tossed away any hard feelings of the early days and created an installment that involves sculptures made out of computer speakers, glass and other found objects.

Part-art, part-science, the twelve pieces on display are meant to encourage people to interact with one another. For example, Hayden constructs what he calls a “sound interactive piece” that consists of fragile blown glass and scuba diving respirators that people can talk into (it’s much cooler than the can tied to a string). The touch-friendly exhibit will focus on the creative ways dialogue is played out between people. Not to mention, It’ll probably be one of the few exhibits you’ll get to touch art, after all.

Seattle artist Ken Turner will also have his photography hanging on the walls. Using a collection of digital photographs he’s hoarded for years, he collages colorful prints in order to create one big picture. See his work here.
