Featured in May 2010's Ampersand section is poet Nicole Hardy, author of This Blonde, a collection that lampoons the the awkwardness of relationships, toys with self-effacing humor and finds a sense of warmth and dignity in both the tragic and disappointing.
Last November, Hardy celebrated the release of her book at the Columbia City Theater (which will reopen in June after a remodel) with a live reading backed by the band Willow and The Embers.
Here, in an excerpt of the recorded performance, Hardy reads "The Book of Richard," demonstrating her cleverness, the strength of her writing ability and the simple fun she brings to readings:
