A Collision of Forces

We spend a lot of time at City Arts HQ talking about how to bridge the music and arts scenes, stimulate cross-pollination among the disciplines and shake things up a bit.

September presented an opportunity to combine a juicy think piece about the mysterious realm of Decibel Festival alongside a cornucopia of 15 must-sees in classical music, dance, theatre and visual arts. Together they prove that this town is blessed with a vast assortment of creative bounty.

And possibility. While writer and dance music guru Brandon Ivers invites us to adventure to the edges of musical innovation, local arts mastermind Greg Lundgren implores us to take our wealth of arts resources to another level. I couldn’t agree more with either of them. Our creative community is undergoing a momentous sea change, hungry, curious and ready to galvanize our multidisciplinary forces toward a new frontier.

Now is the time to stock up on ideas, to go and see things. To dive inside the cozy corner bar and hatch some schemes. That’s what September’s here for.

This issue also heralds considerable change and eager anticipation here at City Arts. September is our last month of publishing three separate editions before we consolidate into one bigger, radder regional magazine in October. The new incarnation of City Arts will debut in time for the second annual Heineken City Arts Fest, Oct. 20–22. We’re bursting at the seams!

See you out there,
