Art Dump

Green is the new gold as awareness of global warming and other human crimes against nature lead to a raft of products and “solutions” that may yet save us from ourselves. Locally, the EnviroHouse (3510 S. Mullen St., 253.573.2426), on the edge of the Tacoma Landfill, showcases building and landscape ideas to improve the health of the planet. And now through Sept. 21 it’s also an art gallery, featuring work by South Bay artists made from 100 percent recycled materials. “I see a direct correlation between recycled-content art and its environmental educational value,” explains Bill Smith, senior environmental specialist with City of Tacoma Solid Waste Management. So he’s brought artists and art lovers to EnviroHouse. Stop by for an eye-opening — and amusing — look at, for example, what Diane Kurzyna can do with old plastic bags and tape. Pictured here is one of her babies stuffed with reused bubble wrap.
