The Washington Cheer Academy is a private training program that sums up its core values in a handy mnemonic: C.H.E.E.R. — Character, Humility, Excellence, Enthusiasm and Respect. Owner Al Lawrence last season took five cheerleading teams to the National Finals; all placed and one brought home the gold. How do you spell this kind of success? “Hard work and fun,” says Mr. Al, “is a winning combination."
